This photo was taking in my shower :) I always joke about that.

It was a regular evening. Not that it made any difference as we were indoors and without any windows. This has 2 lights. The main light is camera left, shooting through a softbox. The other one is really faint fill light coming from right above the camera.

Inspirations come from different places. This time I really just wanted to take a photo which resembled sprinkles of water all over. It was the specific word for a category on a photography scavenger hunt I was participating in.

There is not much post processing. I changed the image to black and white, and then played with the contrast, brightness, shadows and clarity in LR. That's pretty much it.

I think you should try and try again until you get as close to your original concept as possible. Sometimes things dont work out as you envisioned, at that time you adjust and get the best photo available. You will surprise how many times that new vision turns into something amazing.
