WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW? - Born and raised in Oakland (town biz!) CA. Moved to San Diego in the year 2000 and have been here ever since.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING HEADSHOTS? - Fourteen years! Sort of...Headshots are what showed me I could make a living as a photographer rather than working in someone else’s office...though it would take me some time to get there. Headshots are the very first thing I got paid for way back in 2006. They were awful (by comparison) but ultimately successful at getting a friend into grad school as an actor. I’ve done them off and on ever since maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I made them my main focus in 2018.

WHAT IS YOUR LIGHTING SETUP FOR HEADSHOTS? - I’m rockin’ three Paul C Buff Einsteins in 10x36in strip boxes that I mostly shoot in the triangle setup. Occasionally I’ll shoot parallel if I’m in a bulk situation and only want to adjust two lights instead of three :)

WHAT ELSE DO YOU LIKE TO SHOOT? - That’s...kind of a big question. For a while, I had a habit of always having a camera on me (even before it was on my phone) so I like to shoot a lot of different things. After headshots and portraits, I mainly do events (or I used to in the before time) and weddings. I do production photography to stay attached to my love of theatre and the odd landscape here and there when I want to de-stress.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER PH AND THE HSC? - I’m pretty sure I first saw Peter on youtube in 2017 and I thought “Who is this character?” I remember looking at his work and thinking “Much to learn, I have.” and “I need to up my headshot game bigtime. ”

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO JOIN THE CREW ONCE YOU FOUND IT? - I made a free account and lurked for a few months in 2018 checking out galleries and such and I signed up right around this time in October of that same year.

WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE WOULD NEVER GUESS ABOUT YOU? - I was incredibly shy as a child. Was very quiet and reserved and afraid to express myself, whether one on one or in a group. Doing theatre pretty much shattered that.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOU? - That I will for real drop what I’m doing if you’re in crisis. Whether that means you need a ride to or from somewhere (distance permitting of course) or are having a hard day. If you know me (even if only slightly better than your mailman) I’ll make some time for you!

“WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOU?…” I think anyone (myself included) who has been a part of the crew for more than 5 minutes knows this paragraph to be true! I’ve seen you popping up left and right sharing tips, tricks, and gold nuggets of wisdom to anybody asking for help. Glad you’re here, Rich!

My mailman and I are pretty tight though.

But would you invite him to a midnight photo shoot on the strip?

It sounds dirty when you say it.

then he must be saying it right

Besides creating some kick-ass headshots, your portrait work is great!

Rich your work is awesome, still one of my favourite associate portfolio's. Your color is spot on and I really dig your portraits. You Rock man, thanks for sharing

Rich!!!! Wow, I really love your work! You came in here and just tore up the place, knocked it out of the ballpark. And you're so generous with your comments and feedback. The Crew is truly a Richer place with you in it. :D

I can (and do) say the same about you!

Your work is awesome Rich! I particularly love your portrait. Thank you for always giving detailed feedback. You are a great member of HSC.

Thanks Daniella! More than happy to be here :)

Yeah Rich! You are a cool dude.

I'm gonna add an instrument to my repertoire so I can be as cool as you!

Ok just make sure it's not an upright bass because it seems cool on paper until you are dragging it around and rolling it down city streets LOL

My wife played the double bass in our early years together. It took up a lot of space in the car.

Dude it's a total labor of love just carrying that friggin thing around!

I was thinking a Marimba would be good.

hey there, did not realize you grew up in Oakland, I graduated from Bishop O'Down HS and worked for the Athletics for the All Star Game. Go Oakland!!!! I knew I liked you, and love your work, but did not know we grew up in the same area, I love how the Bay Area is represented in the Crew

Yay Areeeaaa!

I lived about a stone's throw from O'Dowd but I went to St Joe's in Alameda because I'd have never heard the end of it from my family if I didn't go to the family school.

Great school-I remember watching basketball games at St Joe's and seeing Jason Kidd play-even as a high schooler he was incredible!!!

We also went to the same elementary school! St Paschal Baylon...which I'm pretty sure isn't a school anymore but still a church not far from the Oakland Zoo.

My family is huge into basketball (me not so much) so we would go whenever they got to state championships and drive out to Sacramento and make a big thing of it.

There's a good chance we were at some of the same games!
