I am getting very interested in theater photography-there is an open door for me as my daughter is doing theater in school and the teachers have been open to my shooting all sorts of activities - i guess what applies here is the headshots I do for playbills, maybe the cast photos
The challenge for these headshots is that I am allowed maybe 30-40 seconds per person-I have a teacher (theater director) screaming the entire shoot "where are my people, they should have been here 20 minutes ago"
So I basically try to find a look I like (at home) and then try to duplicate it at the school-requirements are black shirts, black background-so my number 1 goal is to keep some separation between the subject and the background
My sample photos show my most recent attempt at doing this-not exactly your classic headshot lighting but I feel like I did accomplish my goal - a big soft light in front and several smaller lights behind-personally I like the look-more of a publicity shot
Love what I'm doing and hope to move up to local theaters in the future.
