2021 Headshot Crew Weightloss or Get in Overall Kick Ass shape Challenge!

Here we are again PEOPLE!

I always get fired up to get in shape this time of year. I don't believe in resolutions because I've always had them fade by the wayside, so I set concrete goals instead. I've been able to keep myself in pretty good shape and stay accountable in staying on track with it when I'm racing my Laser, but since I didn't get to race much in 2020 I let myself get a little behind the eight ball. However, I've got a new workout routine with my buddy that's got me super fired up and I'm actually stronger than I've ever been in the gym. So who's with me to get in shape in 2021?

I'll lay out my goals for you so I can keep myself accountable. I'm about 212 right now I think and will confirm that later when I get to my scale at home. I need to get down to 187 for the World Championship in September and be super fit. Plan is to get as close as possible to that by Feb 18th when I jump in the boat for the first time in Florida. In order to do so, I'm getting damn serious. Every time I stop drinking alcohol I drop weight like a rock, so I made a deal with my wife and workout buddy that I'm not drinking until my 20th Wedding Anniversary on June 8th! If I fail then my workout buddy and I have to do 500 burpees all at once until we are finished with them. Believe me I'm not failing. I'm also doing 50 reps of abs per day, 15 minutes of stretching and 15 minutes of meditation.

I put this out there to you guys, so you know how serious I am and to hold myself super accountable to get it done. From my track record I don't mess around, so should be a done deal. Benefits? I'll be in the best shape of my life since I was training for the Olympics. I won't be hung over anymore and my mornings will be much more productive.

If you are willing to jump in at whatever capacity works for you let me know. I know we've had great success with getting this crew in shape every year I do it. So whether you want to drop lbs or just be healthier or whatever it is for you just jump in on this with me and our other crew members!

I'm gonna SHABANG the crap outta it!

Peter

I use Lumen right now. It's pretty good and it plans your macro's for the day. Then I update that in myfitnesspal. Keyto is good too. Both of these are based off your breath and not blood. So if you don't like pricking yourself.

Thanks Peter - Ill check them out for sure!

I'm pretty plain and just stick to meats, veggies that don't grow in the ground, and no fruits. I eat a lot of almonds, cashews, etc. But did you know Chipotle now has cauliflower rice? Try this: Cauliflower Rice, Chicken, Red Salsa, Cheese, and Guac.

If you want something more like food prep check out mega fit meals or snap foods.

Ive had that Chipotle cauliflower rice twice this week, love it!

Hey all. Given the topic, I thought I would share that a good friend of mine, who is a fitness & health coach, is doing a Free 5-Day Challenge where she introduces some useful, basic things you can do immediately to start "feeling better in the skin that you are in." It starts a week from Friday (1/29) and you can sign up here: https://fluidlymoving.com/5-day-challenge/.

I'm in. I've only 7lb in weight to drop, but I want to get my vernal fitness level up again. Lockdown doesn't helpI've made a start as you can see. https://fb.watch/3dyu5vmf59/. Apple Fitness+ rocks!

Nicely done
Almost 1 month in to the year!!

I'm in. I'm already down 21 lbs, since December 5th.

FYI, My Fitness Pal, which is great app to track food/workouts/progress, has a social function.

Well, I did put on a little bit of holiday weight first.

Crossed the -30lb mark today. Basically another 9lbs in Feb. Feeling great.

Plateaued a bit March. Throttled back on the diet to break it.

Still -30#s. Another -10#s would be great though.

Been making my own turkey and chicken bone broths. Living on that stuff.

Equally as important is your vascular health that can be "easily" reset through Intermittent Fasting or even going a bit further and using a Continuous Glucose Monitor. The CGM by Levels and the Zero App are two amazing things that have changed not only the way I eat, but how I feel overall. Highly recommend both! Text me or hit me up if you need an invite to Levels. I was in one of the initial cohorts and can "speed" you up through the waitlist which is now over 100,000 deep! Good luck everyone! Also, hit my up on Hydrow or Peloton. Cheers!

Are you fasting 16 hours per day, with 8 off, a deeper fast a couple of days per week, or something else?

Start of the month update thread everyone!
I'm down 5 pounds, but just started the MyFitnessPal last week, which is working well.
Where is everyone else at! This is a life changer, not a resolution that fades away.

Since the start I have lost 5 pounds as well. Started running every morning and just stick to no alcohol, bread, pasta & potatoes.

I switched to sugar-free Red Bull with Tito’s :)

Try Bulletproof Coffee instead of the Red Bull. Also, “sugar-free” still commands an insulin response so no bueno. Switch to tequila too. Much better and “healthier” if you’re going to do alcohol.

Why is it always harder for woman? My age doesn't help either. I started a little late as I was focused on my new website. Now that it is manageable, i am back to exercising every morning. I have learned to keep it real. 20 minutes on my workout app and 20 minutes HIIT on the elliptical. I pretty much eat only whole foods, but get sloppy when I get busy. Portion control and no alcohol during the week has worked in the past. I have a veggie day on Monday's and soup and salad on Wednesdays. Down 2 pounds and have 13 more to go by end of May.

Sexual dimorphism. Basically we're bigger, so the percentage change is a better metric than lbs. -20lbs on a guy is like -10lbs on a woman.

Where I'm at.

A year ago today a slow awful run was a 13 minute mile and I felt like death after going just over 1.1 miles.

Today a slow awful run is a 10 minute mile 5k that I feel pretty good after.

Feeling fit with tons of energy. Had a client yesterday that took a lot of my juice to get going. A few years ago I would have been exhausted afterward but I came home feeling even *more* juiced.

Duuuude! I am trying to build a business AND get in shape this year. My current goals are to be able to lift heavier and look a little better in jeans. I'm in!

I took on this challenge last year when you put it out there, Peter. When I came to Chicago for the intensive a few months earlier and I got my headshot I knew I wanted to change. When I came to Vegas for Mania 2 and I saw the image I am sharing from your 50th I was just embarrassed. That is when I decided I was going to take this shit head on and not let it beat me. This year has been an unbelievable journey and has taken every bit of self control and discipline I have. But as of two days ago I have officially hit my original goal of losing 130 POUNDS! I did it in under a year and I am still going. My life has been changed. I am ME again and I will never look back! I was wearing 4X-4XB shirts, now I'm wearing a Large with not even 1 X in front of it!!! Thank you for the motivation and belief that it can be done. So many of the crew have been supportive and I can't tell you how much that means to me. Forever Grateful and reinvigorated...

These are my words written in last years challenge post on from January 1st 2020:
Here is what I know...I have gained well over 125 pounds in the past 2-3 years and It has greatly impacted my life. I can’t do the things I want with my family, I can’t always focus and dedicate the time and energy I want to photography, I am setting a bad example for my young son, I feel like absolute shit most days and I am generally disgusted with what I have allowed to happen. I have never been a person who lacked drive or motivation to be the best. I have always wanted to be the one out front being a leader on things. Unfortunately that has not always been the case since I have let this body of mine get so ridiculously out of shape. I was always an athlete growing up and maintained most of my adult life so It’s a weird feeling when your mind doesn’t fit your body or it’s capabilities. I could blame it on all of the things that have happened over the past few years because that’s easy for me to do. However, if I keep letting that into my mind to justify this I will never get better. I need to shed 100lbs this year and I will drop 60 by May 1st. BUT my first goal is to lose 25lbs by MANIA! Let’s go!

The first and the last photos were taken this month...

Thanks Rich! Means more than you know! ??

Wow. What discipline and determination! Congratulations!
*and I just realized you're in MD. I'm from Silver Spring now living in CA.

Thanks so much Esther! I just want people to know that if I can do it, anyone can do it!!! ??

Thanks Ryan!!! Still going strong and Now I’m able to focus on more aspects of my health in 2021!

WOW! You look fantastic! Nice job. Bet you feel amazing now that you dropped all that weight.

I am in. I have a BMI of 31, officially obese/plus size. I have about 40lbs to be “normal” BMI. Already lost 10 lbs due to pandemic stress. More important than potential weight loss, is exercising more. And feeling healthier and stronger— both physically and mentally!

For those on the Pelaton app, my handle is katmadison. I will follow back. Could use some encouragement/accountability to get on my bike. Also enjoy virtual ballet barre with Tiler Peck on Instagram and Zoom ballet barre with my local dance school.

Just got a Nike SE Apple Watch. Hopefully that will be a motivator to move and exercise more!!!(Ended up canceling my order for Westcott Eyelighter 2. My basic reflector and reflector stand has been working for me. I have to control my impulse to get more and more photography equipment. And use what I have to the best of my abilities.)

Trade in my Peloton app for Apple Fitness+. It is cheaper and better. Will miss Cody Rigsby as a virtual trainer, though. Been completely my Activity Circles. Feeling stronger. Best wishes!

I've *gained* weight due to pandemic stress! I have been working on it (I've posted above), but during this time, I've been finding it more challenging than I expected to maintain motivation. I keep "falling off"... but (as I've learned), the important thing is not to use that as an excuse to just say, "Well, I've already blown it, so I might as well....[whatever].

I've been in and out of shape my entire life, and in the past, I was able to "shift" and maintain a good routine of healthy eating and exercise, and lose the weight and keep it off. Never permanently, though. I cycle up and down, in maybe three-year cycles. I've done weight training, boot camp, martial arts, cycling, kayaking, etc. When I'm in shape, I'm pretty strong.

I'm very short (5 feet even), and part of my personal challenge is that it doesn't take much food for me to gain weight. I need to keep my calories at around 1,000 - 1,200. And I'm really into food -- not just, "I like to eat," but learning about cultures through food, exploring new culture's food and recipes, testing different recipes for the same dish, etc. To my benefit, we don't use processed foods almost at all; we cook our own meals from scratch, and eat lots of vegetables.

This time, it's been harder to shift and maintain it. Still struggling. Impressed and inspired by those posting here.

I lost 50 lbs last 2020. I gained it again during the Holidays. I'll try to lose them again.

Oh wow, I haven't raced in a Laser since I was a teen! Don't think it would be a good idea for me to cram into one of those today.

Hmmm... I gotta do *something* Thinking I'll start with jog/walks in the morning.

Hope everyone is still pushing! 2 months down!
I've been pushing hard this last month, consistent weight training, added a little cardio (adding more this month) and healthier eating!
At the beginning of this I was at 212, then bumped to 215, and now down to 203.
Keep pushing everyone!

today's update, according to my scale, is that I am now at Pre-covid weight...and still dropping.
I have kept up with intermittent fasting, have added 125oz of water per day, and am in the gym with my trainer 3 times per week.
I am officially 7 lbs away from my target!

How are you all doing with your goals?

That's awesome! I had a shitty run this morning that I'm blaming on poor sleep last night. I would blame the massive plate of nachos we had for dinner but I also recorded one of my best times post nachocalypse so...

First, I do love that term: Nachocalypse.

Second... One night of indulging or poor sleep won't kill your long term goals. Just keep driving forward!

Oh I know. Doubled down today and had a much better run even though it's warmer out!

Great Job Richard! You've been extremely dedicated to your gym regiment.
