2020 Headshot Crew Fitness Challenge!

Well, 2020 is here and I know many of you make resolutions to better yourselves in every way, shape, and form. For me, the New Year is usually a good time to revisit my current goals and make fitness goals as well.

Whether you want to lose weight, gain weight or just get yourself healthier than no better time than now to do it. We've done this challenge HSC style in the past and have seen people make great strides.

I'm a bit of a yoyo with my weight and have kept it in pretty decent shape since weighing in at 230 lbs on 1/1/15. I haven't gone back up into that realm in the past 5 years but did weigh in at 209.9 this morning after midnight. I need to weigh around 185 lbs to remain competitive in my Laser and the Master World Championships that are taking place in Australia in March. There is a pre-regatta starting March 13th, so that's my date to weigh in at 185 lbs. I essentially need to lose 25lbs by then. I did weigh in after gorging myself with a New Year's feast though! So I'm optimistic I'm going to get off to a good start.

If you'd like to partake in the challenge then feel free to add a comment below. If you want to add a shot of your current weight on your scale or if you have no fear then feel free to post a current body shot!

We'll check in every now and then to see how everyone is doing and of course I'll be posting on social. So watch out for #abalerts once I get the abs to come out and play.

Here's my current situation while pushing the gut out and sucking that sucker in! Let's see where I can get it in the coming months. Who's in?

We’ve got a handful of people with peloton bikes. Wonder how many in the crew? I was bidding on shooting the founders in December. Have to check back in on that.

I was hoping Peloton had a studio in Vegas. Alas, just some Peloton bikes at a few of the hotels (but not SLS unfortunately)... I'm using my Headshot Crew profile pic frame for my Peloton avatar!

Update: I've lost 10 lbs so far -- a significant chunk after spending a week in Vegas in January and coming down with some serious bronchial crud. Word to the wise for those of us heading to HM2: Bring your sanitary wipes and wash your hands ALL THE TIME. There are a gazillion germs that thrive in Vegas!

Congrats, Lisa! That's great! Very good advice about hand-washing. In airports and while traveling there, too! Lots of germs. Hoping the only Coronas we hear about there are beer....

That reminds me that I need to start taking Oregano essential oil and drinking Golden Milk to bump up my immune system.

Hey everybody, I’m in as well. Been overweight for most of my life. Back in September I was at 212 and decided to start the keto diet. I got down to 186 before the holidays but managed to put 6 pounds back on so I’m around 192 right now. I think my goal at this point is to get to 170 by April and at that point reevaluate and see if I want to get down further.

I"m in. Started back at beginning of December with a goal to lose 24 pounds. I'm already down 6-7: Using myFitnessApp to track calories and swimming 3 times a week and riding my horse 3 times a week. Between a sore knee and chronic achilles issue, I have to choose my exercise wisely.

My biggest trouble is a I HATE to cook and work a 12 shift 3 days a week so it's dinner out most nights. I do ok with usual breakfast and packed lunches but the "Farm to Table" place we frequent regularly has loads of temptations when I"m tired and Hangry. Being a vegetarian and allergic to soy products - KETO and other "carb free" efforts are hard to maintain at restaurants.

Glad to be part of a group effort on this.... I will now be thinking of "the Crew" at 4:30 am when I'm temped to skip the gym for an extra few minutes of sleep. I used to get up no problem every morning with my daughter to go to swim practice but she went to college this fall - it's much harder to do it for myself!

As a now empty nester, on the eve of The Big 5-0, I need to get used to making decisions for me :- ) a daily practice.

Glad you are on it! I have no issues with keto in restaurants and eat out more often than not I think.

I'm in too! currently at a weight of 214, with a goal of being 200 or under. Ideally, I'd like to hit that goal by Mania2. So...I have some work to do!
Clearly, i need one of these Garmin scales...as I live in the stone age and use an old school scale.

As long as your scale is accurate you should be good.

As of today, I'm down 2 pounds from the start of the challenge, and hit a little snag. Seems I "might" have some issues with my rotator cuffs on both shoulders. Going to give them some rest and if no resolution, I might need to see an orthopedist.

As of today, down 5 lbs. I think my scale is lying to me... but I'm happy with the progress! Despite my week and a half long set back with injured shoulders, I'm back in the game! 9 lbs til I hit the goal! Let's go!!

After a little fluctuation, I'm down a total of 6 lbs since the start of the challenge. Overall, I'm down 37 lbs from my heaviest weight of 245lbs. Making progress!

Challenge accepted! Starting at 199.2 with a goal of 185. Want to be down to 190 by Headshot Mania 2. I put it out there so now I am committed.

I'm in. I used to run a lot, then (essentially broke my neck), post surgery they told me, don't run. Two years later, ruptured my only remaining good disc in my neck and when I mentioned the "don't run" thing with my surgeon, he said, you can run.. duh. I think surgeons just don't want you to screw up their work. ;). Anyway, was doing well till I met my (now) husband, and gained 10 pounds in four months.. we like to eat out. Anyway, I'm back on the running tail with lofty goals and a 14 pound loss is one of them! Happy New Year y'all.

Wow! Neck stuff is scary. I pinched a nerve in my neck and was a mess for a while. I forget if they told me I could run or not. Anyway glad you are going for it!

I'm in! It's gotta get done. I let myself go way too much this past year and got up to 260lb. Stress eating, bad food choices and not exercising all helping that weight creep on up. Not only affecting weight but mood, mindset, energy, etc.

I want to lose 20lbs by Mania2 and get to 190 by end of 2020 so that I'm at a healthier weight. More importantly, I just want to feel better, with more energy, and be able to keep up with my two little ones. Just got to buckle down and get it done! Putting it here with the crew for accountability

What! 260! Can’t imagine you at that weight. Ok mania2 goals. Love it!

In!

I've lost a step or two and the 10k I ran in November made it pretty obvious! I've never much cared or worried about the numbers and am more into how I feel, and right now the answer to that is a bit more sluggish than I should. For reference though I'm at about 185 right now and 175 was my weight pretty much from 20 - 35.

My goal is to tone back up to "you look like you have a 12 pack" shape, or as close as possible since that was indeed some time ago. Also, I'd like to get my mile time down to 7.5-8 minute range.

My diet is already mostly plant-based with some fish and meat peppered in here and there, but I could definitely be doing better about that. Beer is my number one vice and while I have no intention of letting it go completely, it is easy enough to cut back.

Lookin good! I hear you on the ? thing.

Here is what I know...I have gained well over 125 pounds in the past 2-3 years and It has greatly impacted my life. I can’t do the things I want with my family, I can’t always focus and dedicate the time and energy I want to photography, I am setting a bad example for my young son, I feel like absolute shit most days and I am generally disgusted with what I have allowed to happen. I have never been a person who lacked drive or motivation to be the best. I have always wanted to be the one out front being a leader on things. Unfortunately that has not always been the case since I have let this body of mine get so ridiculously out of shape. I was always an athlete growing up and maintained most of my adult life so It’s a weird feeling when your mind doesn’t fit your body or it’s capabilities. I could blame it on all of the things that have happened over the past few years because that’s easy for me to do. However, if I keep letting that into my mind to justify this I will never get better. I need to shed 100lbs this year and I will drop 60 by May 1st. BUT my first goal is to lose 25lbs by MANIA! Let’s go!

25 by mania2 baby! Let’s do it!

Woohoo! I’ve been doing Bulletproof/intermittent fasting. I haven’t been working out in the traditional sense, but I dance every day and do pull-ups. Need to add more cardio and strength training. My aim is to tone way up. Go Crew! Go Crew! Go Crew!

I would think your belly dancing is a good core workout!

Amy, can you tell me more about bulletproof.

It means the bullets stop.

Sonja, Bulletproof coffee combines coffee, MCT oil (usually derived from coconut oil), and organic butter as a substitute for breakfast. You can google it for more info, it helps curb your appetite and is big in Austin. You can add tumeric, protein powder, collagen powder etc for health benefits.

I do bulletproof daily too. Dave Asprey and I have been in touch and he sent me a ton of stuff. The company rocks.

Definitely in!

Back in my college days I was a dancer and mt. biker. Since I left college and got married my health took a big slide. I turned it around and did several Spartans BBBBUUUUTTTT ..... I let it go again. I am looking to get back into shape so some group accountability and support would be great.

My goal is not so much in any weight number though. I am working toward upper body strength to run a clean Spartan, the stamina and speed to run a 5k under 20 minutes, and the agility to get back into some dancing.

My plan:
- run 3 days a week (Tempo Run, Hills/Fartlek, Long Run)
- Strength training 3 days a week
- Intermittent fasting (and better portion control)

I'll get a current body shot later today or this week.

You going to flex it up on those body shots?

Didn't have time to get to the studio last week like I thought I would. But I got it done and it's SCARY! These photos are a wake up call.

Oh boy am I in! I gotta lose 25 lbs before my 50th birthday in August. I'm 5'2", 140 lbs. After retiring from teaching dance and sustaining an injury bouldering (lateral epicondylitis with a minor tear), I haven't been putting in any time at the gym and instead eating all the chocolate and bread. I hike once a week but it's not enough.

I'm starting that slow-carb life and tossing back a few Bulletproof coffees to begin with. I'm also doing yoga daily.

Looking forward to hearing your stories and getting tips from you! Best of luck!

Nice! I just downed some bulletproof

I just weighed in yesterday at 229lbs! That’s about the heaviest I’ve ever been. Two and a half years ago I was maintaining 190 which would still be overweight for me. Currently my BMI is 32.8, anything over 30 is clinically obese. My goal for 2020 is to be 170lbs and no more than 15-20% body fat (12-14% would be great) . I want to maintain that going forward and never go above 175 again.

That’s up there for you for sure. Let’s keep the accountability going here. I need to stay on top of it too.

I'm in. In 184.2lbs as of 29 Dec 2019. My target is 180lbs (!) and I need a bit of space under that to allow for cake and the food affects of HSM2!!

4lbs you can handle that and the cake!

I‘m in!
After 4 years „pregnancy“ is not an excuse anymore for all the weight I’ve gained.
Can’t do Keto as I had a massive kidney stone this year which was surgically removed.
I don’t drink alcohol either however, sugar is my vice. So I’ll be seriously cutting down on this. Intermittent fasting has worked for me in the past. I also will up my fitness and squeeze workouts in wherever I can. More walks with my daughter, more dancing. I’ll be 46 in March and I want to be a hot mummy lol

Ideally I want to lose about 30lbs.
Is that doable by summer?

Thanks everyone for being so open about their weight/health/fitness struggles.

30 lbs is definitely doable! Ideally, you’ll lose 2 lbs a week. This is one area where slow and steady, emphasis on steady, is the best and most effective for longterm weight loss.

Was diagnosed Type-2 Diabetic this past year, sugar has always been my vice... Especially gummies, I want to eat them all.

Love this challenge Peter! I just started a challenge with my friend yesterday- in 8 weeks we plan to shed 20 lbs. I have started fasting at 4pm- I no longer eat until breakfast- Studies show that you live longer with a 16 hour daily fast! I think my body stores fat at night too, so I gotta put an end to it. I started running and am trying to regain muscle and tone the heck up! I also plan on joining a local bikram yoga place next week and have started a plant based diet.

I am at 154 right now and want to be at 131-135. Hoping to be close to my goal by HS Mania!

Good Luck Everyone with this awesome Challenge- Time to get fit!

You go girl!!!! I’m right there with you! My long term is the 130s, but I want to stick with losing 10 right now to 149! I may be headed to your coast this month. My sister has a condo for a month on Marco. I’ll call you!?

I'm in, you majestic beasts. I need to lose 85 pounds in two years.

I'm in!

In my late 20's I lost over 150 pounds (330 to 180); but have slowly gained back about 50 in my 30's.

I'll need to officially get the scale out to check-in; but I'd like to get back down to at least 200!

Ohh also; I am by no means a Certified Professional Trainer... however...

I did study exercise science for a while in school and have maintained a lifelong passion for exercise physiology and nutrition science, keeping up to date with most of the major papers and studies that get released on PubMed.

Ergo if anybody wants help to develop a nutrition and/or exercise plan let me know!

I'm in. After I moved to Seattle it was like we were on vacation all the time - eating out, lettin' those mean ole carbs creep back into my diet, drinking more than I should (which is also carbs). I went from 225 to close to 250lbs. I'm ready to turn things around. I'll be really happy to get my weight back to 225lbs by watching what I eat and drink, and get more wind/energy back through exercise. I'll put together some specific goals around this (along with my other 2020 goal setting).

I was 217.5 pounds on January 1, 2020.
My goal is 200 by Mania!
