My name is Donald (Don) Chalfy and I'm a photographer..."Hi Don." I love photography, many genres of photography. I am inspired by the unique beauty people posses and strive to capture those unique traits through my camera. I am new to the professional photography scene and specialize in portraiture and headshots. I am equipped to work in the studio, as well as on location.
My life's journey has been colorful and full of rich experiences and challenges that have brought me to where I am currently (I love challenges). I took up the challenge to become a professional photographer when I was 50. I went to college and received my degrees in Photography. I currently have a portrait studio in Minneapolis, MN. Prior to that, I enjoyed a 30 plus year career as a musician, playing the tuba primarily in orchestras and bands, and occasionally, playing jazz on the electric bass. A big part of those 30 years were 12 years of active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps. Growing up, I had two constant interests among many; they were music and photography. I chose music at a young age, however, I always had a camera nearby. As an adult, I would often consider what a piece of music might look like and what a person or object I came across looking at might sound like musically, if you will. Music has been a delight to my soul and senses.
Photography has also been a delight to my soul and senses. Over the years, I've loved taking photographs as much as the music I made. My career in the Marine Corps gave me the ability to purchase different SLRs and medium format cameras, travel throughout the Western United States, Middle and Far East photographing the people and culture.
In 2007, I made a commitment to learning digital photography and steered my life in the direction of becoming a photographer as a means of perpetuating my artistic nature. There are few sensations that rival the intimate trust and rapport between the photographer and their clients. Once that bond is established, great things and photographs will follow. People are a symphony of experiences and senses. Now, and as I mature as a photographer, one goal remains constant; my commitment to bringing out the very best in each and every client. I will do my utmost to ensure that each person I photograph leaves their photo session feeling transformed and great about themselves, and their photographs are music for the eyes.
