After leaving Rhode Island School of Design's Sculpture Department, Jon apprenticed with an artist blacksmith in Seekonk MA. Moving to New York City in 1990, Jon then became immersed in politics and activism bringing his visual and design skills into different projects. In recent years Jon has gone back to his personal art through photography with a focus on portraits and other images that incorporate humans into the image.
