About Bruce

Like many successful photographers, Bruce Smith achieved his first big break in fashion photography by setting up a test shoot with a model.

Inspired by great photographers from the decades past, such as Cecil Beaton, Norman Parkinson, David Bailey, Barry Lategan, Horst P Horst, Irving Penn and Richard Avedon.

His career began in 1983 with a test shoot that borrowed some Fifties’ style gowns for from a top fashion designer who sold her clothes through exclusive London stores.

Such was the impact of these images on the designer, she commissioned Bruce for the next few collection.

So what started as a test, became billboards in exclusive stores in London also a spread in one of the UKs leading fashion magazines, at the time ‘Avante Guard’.

Since then Bruce has travelled the world shooting high fashion campaigns, beauty complains, couture and bridal wear gowns, lingerie, swimwear, magazine editorials and advertising images for some household names along with working occasionally with super models and movie stars.

Bruce loves the connection he creates between his subjects to bring out the best in them whether for a head shot or a fashion image. Bruce says, "Without a connection there is no story in the image"

Like most image makers he believes that his images tell the story. So please check out his portfolio and decide for yourself if his style of photography is right for you.
