I have a lengthy background in art starting from junior high school that extends the way to Sheridan College, where I took their Illustration program(2002) and their Bachelor of Applied Arts Animation Program(2003). For the most part my passion consisted of traditional mediums but I’ve always had a fascination with photography. I never got the chance to explore photography then as I ended up in business administration after Sheridan.
5 Years later, I make the decision to walk away from a promising career in logistics management, due to stress and having burned out from over working, and for zero gratitude for my efforts. Being good at my job was something I enjoyed but the work itself wasn't making me happy, so I made a hard decision to leave that safety and take a risk to pursue happiness first. I bought a used DSLR initially as a stress reliever and instantly fell in love with the medium, it brought back memories of my younger days where I could enjoy and appreciate art. I bought the camera March of 2012 and steadily upgraded to full-frame as I felt my passion for photography was exceeding a mere hobby. I wanted to do this all the time so I decided to marshal my resources and put my focus on establishing a photography business in Toronto.
I became an associate photographer at Bell's headquarters recently, where I learned studio and corporate portrait work. I'm still very comfortable in the corporate environment so it was a great experience and starting point for me. I've since incorporated a photography business for myself and built a functional home studio for portrait/beauty/fashion work.
I'm very technical with my photography as I prefer to plan, schedule and build mood boards before doing the actual shoot. I've carried over efficiency, customer service and accountability from my management background. I feel the years spent away from art refined my business, people and organizational skills. Starting over isn't easy but I've never been happier and more excited about the future.
