WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?

I was born and raised in Scotland, and now live in Minnesota. I moved to the United States at the age of 20, chasing a girl. 


HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING HEADSHOTS?

I started shooting in general back in 2012 with my first DSLR, like many, it was a hobby that turned into a profession over time. It took me a couple of years before I took my first headshots, and they were terrible. I poked around looking for teaching on how to improve and stumbled across Peter and the Headshot Crew. After being in the crew for a bit, I eventually went to a Headshot Intensive in 2016 and things really took off from there, making Associate in early 2017. Since then, I’ve stopped all other forms of photography and focused my business entirely on headshots.

WHAT IS YOUR LIGHTING SETUP FOR HEADSHOTS?

I’m a FlexKit baby! Got one of them mid-way through my path to Associate and it really helped take my quality up a big notch. I just love shooting continuous light and the FlexKit has served me well. In terms of setup, I’m pretty consistent with the triangle set up for women and main-fill- kicker for men.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR STUDIO. DO YOU OWN IT? RENT IT? OR LIVE IN IT?

I’m blessed to have enough space in my home to dedicate a section in my lower level to a studio. I have a full room dedicated to hanging clothes, changing, makeup etc... and then a shooting room.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU LIKE TO SHOOT?
In my earlier days, I shot everything, weddings, seniors, real estate, etc... but I really landed on headshots as my passion area. It’s a unique blend of creative and analytical that fits perfectly with me. I can systematize it and produce a consistent look that truly impacts individuals and their presence in the world.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER PH AND THE HSC?
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO JOIN THE CREW ONCE YOU FOUND IT?

I found Peter somewhere around 2014-2015 and joined the Crew quickly after that. It was a fantastic move that really gave me the coaching needed to get to where I am now.

WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE WOULD NEVER GUESS ABOUT YOU?
Given that over the last 26 years I’ve lost most of my accent, they’d probably never guess that I’m a Scottish boy through and through.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOU?

I can be fairly private so I’m not sure there’s anything I particularly wish people knew about me! That being said, in my day job I hold a dual executive role as Chief Information Officer and Chief Marketing Officer for a distribution company. I think it gives me a unique perspective because I can connect with my business clients and understand where they’re coming from, I’m in their world.
