Who's in the Crew? - Spotlight on Eric Campbell
I'm all about the community in the Crew. Sure, we can learn how to take top-notch headshots and that's why we are here, but the staying power is in our community. I know of no other environment for photographers so full of support, encouragement, and friendship than this place that Peter built. It's more than an online site of learning and you've experienced that first-hand if you were at Mania or Mania2. If you didn't make it, that's ok because this is where the community is built.
I talked to Peter about doing a weekly post on a crew member. Time permitting, he liked to bring someone on during a crewcast and get to know them, but that doesn't always happen so I thought this would be a great place to keep some consistency going. I'll be reaching out to someone new every week and if you would like to participate before I reach out to you, please email me kim@kdaltonphotography.com.
Week one starts with Eric Campbell who was chatting with me last night and rejoined the Crew during our chat. Check out his story and leave him some support in the comments :)

WHERE DO YOU LIVE? Hollywood, Florida
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING HEADSHOTS? 2 years
WHAT ELSE DO YOU LIKE TO SHOOT? Portraits
WHAT IS YOUR LIGHTING SETUP FOR HEADSHOTS? LED panels
WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER PH AND THE HSC? When I first started out doing photography, I was scrolling through Instagram and I came across Ryan Parker's page. I sent him a message and asked him why his photos were so awesome, and how he did his lighting. He told me if I want to get really good I should join the HSC.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO JOIN THE CREW AFTER YOU FOUND IT? I joined the very next day. I knew that it was my calling to become a photographer, and after seeing Ryan Parker's work I knew that if I was going to make a living and support my family doing photography, I had to be part of the crew.
That was in 2017. While I was in the crew I started getting really good really fast. The hardest part was learning to be humble, and take criticism. Once I got past that, I was able to take the advice and build a headshot business for myself in South Florida.
I ended up winning the PHD, and that changed my life. I won HSOTM the same time my second child was born, a double whammy of good news! That was during the time when the prize was a free intensive and all the tutorials and everything, that changed my life. I quickly became one of the most popular headshot photographers for actors in South Florida.
However, right when it was starting to blow up, I ended up moving to North Carolina.
I wasn't able to get the business started up there, but my reputation was growing in South Florida. I was traveling back and forth to South Florida and running headshot specials and making all the money I need for the month.
It ended up getting a little hectic so we decided to move back to Florida, and now I'm the number one guy for actors, just two years after joining a headshot group.
When I was doing all the moving, I let my subscription to HSC expire because I didn't have time to be active on the crew.
Now I am back, I have my own studio, and all my gear. I'm rejoining the crew so I can finally become an associate, and because I want to push myself to the limits in photography and I know there's no better place but the Headshot Crew.
WHAT'S ONE THING ABOUT YOU PEOPLE WOULD NEVER GUESS? I’m an Ordained Minister.
WHAT'S ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOU? I’m a really nice guy!
