About Jessica

My name is Jessica Kaminski and I am the owner/photographer at The Refinery Photo Studio located in Downtown Milwaukee, WI. I am a Polish/Puerto Rican female business owner.

After receiving a B.F.A in Photography from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2001, I've have a whirlwind of photography jobs. In my early career I traveled the country as an assistant to both commercial and editorial photographers. I taught Lighting and Photography 101 to both high school and college students. As I grew, I became the staff photographer for a prominent midwest magazine, winning awards for my fashion photography work. Eventually I left that job to go out on my own.

In the last 5 years, I decided to concentrate on something I loved the most: photographing people. My studio is dedicated to creating headshots, branding portfolios, and beautiful magazine style portraits for my clients. The studio itself is within the Railway Exchange, a historical building with wrought iron railings and marble floors. My studio windows face east with a beautiful view of downtown and the Milwaukee Lakefront.

I never start with a preconceived idea of how to photograph my clients. Rather, I aim to understand who they are and how they want to be perceived in their portrait, which is ultimately the best version of their true selves.
