In my earliest memory, my grandfather showed my brothers and me his PHOTOS in his darkroom, in his apartment in the Brazilian City of Sao Paulo, the second largest city of the WORLD, at that time. My grandfather told me, and at 97 years of age tells me today, that the world can take anything from me but my knowledge. I became a photographer BEFORE I had ever held a camera.
I was born in a middle class family, with little luxury but great affection, a strong SENSE of family and a strong commitment to education as the basis for my FUTURE. My mother graduated from college in sociology, but my father's father died when he was 10, leading him to make his way to Sao Paulo to begin a new life. Afther their MARRIAGE, my parents moved from Sao Paulo to a small city called "Land of the Snoring Fish" in indian, Pirassununga, the city of my birth in 1965. In this CITY and their home, I learned from my parents how to walk in the world, how to stand tall in life and how to take pictures. Each one of us had our own cameras. My mother's was my favorite.
I have worked as a professional photographer in the past in Brazil for 15 years and made my living in head shots, fashion and cosmetic still life commercial photography until 1996 when I moved to New York City and had my life style completely changed.
Was only in 2012 when I was asked to make a head shot that I realized that the fulfillment that I need it in my life was what I love the most. I already have the experience so here I am.
