I am the founder of Portraits for Patriots, a Colorado Springs, Colorado based philanthropic program that specializes in creating exceptional headshot portraits for our service members and spouses as they transition to civilian careers. Our services are provided free of charge.
Each year, over 200,000 service members will transition out of the military and into the civilian work force. That’s a million potential new hires over the next five years. From cover letters and college applications to the all-important LinkedIn profile, getting recognized in today’s job market requires a great headshot. A cursory glance through applicants will reveal an alarming number of phone-pics and selfies and even images with other people cropped out of them! Many will use their official DoD photo while some go without one, altogether. LinkedIn has noted that profiles with professional portraits are viewed 14 more times than those without. That’s a massive disadvantage just because of a lame headshot!
Together, we are doing much more than taking pictures. We are creating portraits that showcase the strength and determination of those who have served, helping them feel confident in their image out of uniform, as they begin this vital new chapter in their lives.
If you are a transitioning service member in need of a headshot, please get in touch. If you are a photographer looking for a way to volunteer, we likely have an opportunity available near you!
