About Rick

I started in commercial art at Central Virginia Community College in 1976 and one of the required course was in black & white from shooting and all the darkroom process including printing. Being able to use an SLR camera and producing a finished product change my hold idea about art. I then change from my interested in commercial art to still film photography and it has been a new experience since then.

I started as a part-time photographer business taken photos of sporting events for the local high school's yearbook and any event individuals may be hired for photos.

My biggest break was when I was hired as a press photographer for a local newspaper. Working with the lead photographer gave me the experience and understanding of taken photos under pressure and since it was an afternoon paper a tight deadline.

Working at that occupation for 6 years gave me the confidence to become a commercial photographer at a local printing company. That when I was introduced to digital and how you can have instant results as soon as the shutter is released. Since the furniture, framed art, and other companies wanted corrected colors I learn how to control the color cast by using flashes and bookends to handle location lighting.

The economy downturn causes the printing company to change direction and I was laid off. But during the time there at the company, I completed a BS in Marketing and also became a Certified Professional Photographer through the Professional Photographers of America. I started my own photography business and has been able to handle any situation that companies or individuals with the different experiences of working hands-on learing photography and the lighting.
